An Overview of the
Virginia Creeper Trail
The Virginia Creeper Trail is approximately 34 miles long and runs from
Whitetop Station, Virginia (near the North Carolina border), to Abingdon, Virginia. This
scenic trail passes through several small, picturesque communities as it winds its way down the
mountain. The Creeper Trail is a favorite not only with cyclists, but with trail runners and horseback
riders alike. The Whitetop Laurel Creek follows the Creeper Trail for much of the ride. This
beautiful stream offers swimming holes to help cool off on hot summer days. The
stream is also stocked in sections and offers some great spots for fishing. During the rainy
season, the stream will occasionally get high enough for kayakers and other boaters. No matter what your
favorite outdoor activity may be, there's a good chance you'll find it on or near the Virginia Creeper Trail.
